Land of the Lord

Oh that my Lord can walk on water.
That he rises above everything of the surface, and more, everything of the deep.
He rises.
And he raises up.
He will raise up.

In John 6:16-21 I find it interesting that it is when Jesus had withdrawn to be alone that the disciples chose to go to sea. When they don’t have the Lord in their immediate presence, they are left to their own devices, to make their own decisions. It was dark at the time when Jesus had not yet returned to his disciples. As the Spirit was not with them yet, when the strong wind came the disciples were frightened. That is when Jesus came on the water to sea them, coming near, saying “It is I; Do not be afraid”. The disciples were glad to have him in the boat and immediately they were at the land they had been going to.

Those moments without the Lord in their presence change the entire posture of the disciples hearts — from faith to fear. For us today, we don’t have the Lord in our immediate presence like the disciples did. But we too have hearts that are prone to fear, prone to wander …

But hear this truth:
The Lord is present and he gifts us with his presence in his Spirit.

It is exciting to read the above passage and to be able to acknowledge that now, because the Spirit is in those who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, that he is always with us. His presence doesn’t come and go. There is never a spirit of fear that should cloud our decisions and direction, as the Spirit of the Lord is near and here – inside the heart of the believer. When he is in our boat, in our presence; we are his dwelling place. With his Spirit within, there is gladness and peace, for we know we are at the land to which we are going.

The land of the Lord; the pastures of his presence.
The pastures of his presence is where his Spirit finds a home.
His Spirit finds a home in hearts ready to receive.

The life of Christ speaks to the heart:
I am, he tells us.
He declares his authority and power, his steadfast love and faithfulness.
He commands no fear.

Oh that my Lord can command the waters.
That he rises above everything of the surface, and more, everything of the deep.
He rises.
And he raises up.
He will raise up.

“And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”
{ Ephesians 2: 17-22}
